May 24, 2020: Our 40th Wedding Anniversary
All things considered, the virtual Zoom celebration worked pretty well. Actually seeing our friends and family was very cheering. We had an impressive amount of "geographic participation" from both our families.
From our original Wedding Party: my sister Shelagh McCarron & her partner Tess Contos (Syracuse, NY) and Mark's brother, Don & his wife Lynda Deprez (Paxton, MA). Kathy Johnson (our wedding vocalist!) joined us & sang from Akron, OH.
Don's kids: Julie Deprez Stevenson & her husband Kevin & son David (Morrisville, VT) and her older brother, Jim Deprez (Mark's nephew) from Columbus, OH. (Jim was 2 weeks old when we got married & Lynda left him in Henrietta with his Grandma Clare Marcoux while they were at the wedding.)
My high school friends joined us: Sharon Ternullo Middleton (Findlay, OH), Mary Anne Styka Wylie (Baltimore, MD) and Colleen Connolly Culligan (Buffalo, NY). Mark's high school friends: Louis & Debby Fico (Bar Nunn, WY), Brian & Diane Porter and Larry & Kathy DeBellis (Rochester, NY) Also from Rochester, my friends: Dan & Kate McBride and Nancy & Mike Mazzochetti, none of those 4 actually attended our wedding in 1980, but have seen us through more than 40 years of friendship! From Ithaca, NY (Mark's cousin Kate Gefell) & Avon, NY (Mark's cousin Bob & Bonnie Deprez).
From Alaska (Mark's cousin Jim Ducker), British Columbia (my cousin Debbie Kirvan), Colorado (Mark's cousin Mike Gefell), North Carolina (Mark's cousin John Ducker, who rode to our Wedding on his motorcycle, from Hawaii!), Virginia (Mark's cousin David Gefell & his wife Hayley) and Ottawa (my cousin Mary Beth Nolan), Toronto (my cousin Karen Kennedy), Hamilton (my cousin Mark Mindorff & his wife Cindy & their "sheltering-in-place" infant grand baby!), Guelph (my cousins Mary Murphy & Jane Nunan, who haven't seen each other for more than 6 mos., even tho they live in the same city), St. Catharines, ON (my cousins Patsy Irwin & Charlotte Chiola & their husbands) were all represented.
After our Zoom event, Mark & I drove to Letchworth State Park. We spent our Honeymoon at The Glen Iris Inn, which was closed, of course. But we took our new truck camper there & parked as close to the Middle Falls as we could get & cooked nice steaks & ate some picnic food & drank sparkling water. And there was cake! Mark even was able to recreate a honeymoon photo of us posed in front of the Middle Falls.
Perhaps I will print out all our our email correspondence for this (and figure out how to print all the fun texting!) and put it in a commemorative book. For now, this will have to do.
